BOW WATERS CANOE CLUBCalgary and area's premier recreational paddling club. |
Welcome to the Bow Waters Canoe Club!
Our PurposeThe primary purpose of Bow Waters is to promote and support recreational paddling. We encourage new and experienced paddlers of all ages and backgrounds to join our club and participate in our various paddling trips, skills development courses and social activities. Safety is our top priority! We host fun and family-friendly club nights the first Wednesday evening of each month at our clubhouse that are open to everyone! HistoryBow Waters Canoe Club has been contributing to the southern Alberta paddling community for over 50 years! We own our own clubhouse on a canal of the Bow. We have a fleet of canoes and stand-up paddleboards available for use by members on the canal or on club trips. |
ActivitiesWe are a very active club, with about 60 club paddling trips last year. These are primarily river based trips in Southern Alberta. We also do lakes and some trips in neighboring provinces. Our trips are not guided - we are common adventurers that paddle together and support one another. This model enables high engagement, and keeps costs for our members very low. We cater to all levels of skill, from novice to advanced whitewater paddling. New paddlers, families and children are welcome! We have members in every age group too! Our trips range from local day trips to multi-day wilderness camping trips. As members develop their paddling skills and make new friends within the club, they sometimes team up and organize their own longer private summer paddling expeditions to more remote destinations. |
Lessons and Skills developmentWe have contracted with Rocky Mountain Paddling to provide recognized paddling skill development and safety training courses for our members, and most of these courses are subsidized by the club. In addition, we support an annual program which introduces thousands of high school students and youth groups to the sport of paddling. Bow Waters members receive discounts for Kayak and SUP lessons from AQ outdoors as well. Safety is our priority: we emphasize it on every trip. Bow Waters also subsidize training such as swift water rescue, wilderness first aid, and trip coordinator training. We offer free whitewater training sessions on summer evenings at Harvie Passage . There are lots of ways to be introduced to paddling, gain experience and advance your safety and skills on the water. |
Volunteering, Coordinating, LeadershipWe are entirely a volunteer run organization. Our members coordinate trips, run the board, build the website and contribute where their interests lie. You will find many ways to contribute , volunteer, get engaged and connect with like minded people within our club. We always welcome new ideas and new members, especially families and young adults seeking new adventures! We can’t wait to see you at a monthly meeting and more importantly on the river!
