We found it best to meet up on Friday at the TL Ranch near Tolman Bridge for car camping, as the shuttle was 7 am the next day. Reserving Deani of TL Ranch provided extra security and convenience for our vehicles. We had heard from another club member who paddled 3 weeks prior, that due to campground closure at Content, vehicles left were broken into.
The put-in and take out were easy, other than the labor of hauling equipment and canoes - this is always a physical work out, which was quite alarming for a new paddler on this trip.
We had discussed options of river camping 1 or 2 nights, so felt it was best to see how it goes...well with the head wind we had for 2 days, it was decided that 2 nights on the river was the best idea. I have taken photos and marked on the map of the camps we used to help others in the future. One of the paddlers, Tim, became our 'Inspector' for the best camp sites.
I have decided for future trips, that it may be best to have 1 or 2 people 'in charge' at the put-in, while drivers are shuttling, Their role is to assist with loading and tying gear if needed, introduce and socialize. It connects the introverts / shy people who may be on their first adventure with the club.
We did have 2 youth and 4 adults experiencing their first river camping trip. Comparing gear with each other, we all learned alternative equipment or tying in ideas.
Enjoyed by all was: the warm temperature of the water for swimming, smores, bathroom shelter, weather, teamwork and wonderful people to connect with.
