Event Details

Expect 4-5 hours on the river in Class I/II, 20 river km. Strong intermediate paddler to advance skills depending on water level. In the foothills the gradient is continuous featuring lots of ledges and quick decisions as features come quickly. Good maneuvering skills and reading on the run skills necessary for ferrying across the river picking channels. Full floatation required. The first part of the trip is narrow and the first third of the trip is busy with action and excitement. There is one mandatory portage in a bend to the right requiring an eddie turn and paddle to get to the opposite bank quickly which will be performed one boat at a time spaced out at five-minute intervals. One sweeper RL of island will scout from the island to make sure if it is still there or not, maybe a portage. Be familiar and brush up on rescue skills. I was out May 21 and there were sweepers to be easily skirted by and a couple either lined or short portage, all safe…, no worries! I would name this reach the Sheep River ledge-o-matic expect to be busy the whole time. Soloist and kayakers this is for you! But tandems can also have fun while challenged.
