The Tatshenshini and Alsek Rivers are considered to be one of the most unique river systems in the world, providing the opportunity to travel 250 km down river from interior forests all the way out to the coast, all while travelling through the largest non-polar icefield in the world, through the world’s second highest coastal mountain range, and through the worlds largest bio-preserve. It is a trip that will not disappoint, with eyegasms around every bend you will certainly come back from this amazing landscape with a new appreciation for the efforts that have been made to maintain and manage this river system.
This presentation will be a highlight of my most recent trip down the Tatshenshini and Alsek Rivers in May 2023, with insights around the permitting process, logistical considerations, the history of the area, campsite highlights and restrictions, wildlife and vegetation, what to pack, a ton of awe-inspiring photos and what to expect depending on the time of year that you go! I will sprinkle in a few photos from past trips to highlight some of the locations I’ve stopped on other excursions and from other times of year.
